Who needs an App site?
Indeed, this is a common question, and the chances are high that you may not find good amount of info, which could serve as an answer to the same. And the chances of finding a direct answer are almost negligible.
The main reason behind this happens to be the fact that app sites are a new concept, and usually the term app site has not been brought into widespread usage yet. Therefore, even Google may not fetch you plenty of info on this keyword, as it does for most of the other topics/keywords.
Now, the million dollar question – “who needs an app site, and why”, still remains unanswered, so let’s look into the details of the matter. Well, the answer is not something like anyone and everyone needs an app site, unlike the regular websites.
Even the individuals today prefer to create their own identity with the help of personal websites, but the same doesn’t apply to the app sites. Usually, the app site is needed by the bigger companies, who wish to promote the apps for a high end product. It is the vendor’s choice whether to use a common app site or create several small app sites for each featured product. Both the concepts have worked well in past, as the legendary Apple Inc has shown the power of a single app site, in form of the App Store, which could handle millions of iPods and iPhone apps single handed.
On the other hand, several companies like Nokia, Samsung and the likes of them, have come up with small little app sites to promote individual products. And the strategy has worked pretty well, boosting up the revenues from the apps for featured cell phones like N-95, N-96, the Samsung Omnia and similar products.
So, as a whole, all the big firms, who can launch a good number of dedicated apps for their products, may opt for app sites, while those who can hardly offer a limited number of apps for their products would not really gain much out of an app site. And sure thing, the individuals have got nothing to do with an app site, so long as they don’t happen to be a hard-core dedicated app developer, who can launch a good number of useful apps for the customers in a particular niche.
